Has anyone heard anything about Ford's answer to existing hybrids? I heard that the gas engine doesn't kick in until you hit 25 mph, but I haven't seen any ads on TV for it.

Interesting to know... I ha ven't read anything about it, but I guess that if you are driving within the city, where you are actually not supposed to drive over 30MPH. then the gas motor should kick in at 40MPH and therefore saving even more gas!  And I know that is possible!  But still, at 25MPH is pretty good.

I haven't heard much about the Escapes. 25 MPH does seem nice compared to most other options! I'd be all for it. About how much would this cost me though?

On the website, a brand new Escape is $25,075. now, about the mileage it said something like 32MPG...  so if you have the money, it might work out.  And you get a $3000 tax credit brake according to the website.

Well that doesn't sound too bad. I was expecting it to be a bit more costly than that, and a tax break is pretty appealing as well!

That is my thinking too.  I have 2 friends that bought hybrids and the difference with the similar cars they would've bought was minimal.  So, depending on how much you want to spend in a brand new car, then it might be worth buying a hybrid.

My only problem is I can't see paying over $3,000.00 for a car.  The only thing that might tempt me would be the vdhivles ability to hold its value once purchased.

My girlfriend thinks the same! She can't and think of buying a new car, not because of lack of money, but because the value goes down so fast.  She rather spend her money on jewlery than in a car!

OH here's an interesting little tidbit....

The Ford Escape is being examined by a power company for its potential as an energy source.  The extra power would be sold to the gas and electric company similar to the buy back that happens with homes using alternative energy sources.  When the home produces more energy than can be used,  The gas and electric company buys the energy.

On one hand this sounds like a good idea, but on the other hand my paranoia is waiting for the "catch-22" to be revealed.
