Did anyone seen that Mazda is coming out with a hydrogen hybrid with rotory engine? The car is powered by energy produced when hydrogen combines with oxygen in the air to emit only clean water.  They say that this new car will run on a full tank of hydrogen from 62 miles to 124 miles.
It also has a battery that will recharge itself using energy from braking. That I am a little confused on in that I am not to sure how that all works using the brakes.
It's nice to see that they are doing something though.

My husband mentioned this a couple of nights ago.  He said they could use liquid hydrogen and the emissions would be zero because the by product is water.  I like the idea but fear that I would never be able to afford one in my lifetime.

My boyfriend mentioned this to me recently. He didn't bother to fully explain it to me, because he knows it's not something I'm very interested in, but it sounds like a good idea to me. I'm sure they will be so expensive!

You're right in that it will probably be to exspensive for the average person to afford. You would think though if it is a good idea that they would make these more affordable for the average person.

I saw a couple of reports with hydrogen powered cars made in France.  They were trying to develop it like the Smart cars, which are pretty much into saving gas, but they were only prototypes.    I would like to check out the Mazda.

One thing is certain, the push to create not petroleum powered cars has reached a frenzy with the advent of terrorism and the rise of extreme forms of Islam where the richest oil deposits are found.  Couple all that with the availability of technology that wasn't available even 10 years ago, and the Middle East might find itself selling its oil within its own geographical boundaries.

I wonder if they have realized how much the market for petroleum is going to shrink during the next 15 years?

I never thought about it like that sagemother. It makes you wonder what they will do to stop this from happening.

I am also surprised that some really misinformed oil company representative hasn't tried making an argument against the hydrogen car due to people misusing the technology to create nuclear weapons or something equally far fetched.  The lack of that sort of discouragement indicates that the hydrogen car isn't considered a threat yet!
