I don't think I have seen any new Hondas that address the new gas crunch.  Back in the 70's the Civic got really popular but I am amazed that I don't see that being pushed.

Are they running ads that I have missed?

There is the Civic hybrid to consider:

Personally I own an Element, it is not bad on fuel economy for a car of its size.

May I ask what you are getting fuel wise on your Element?
I have seen the Civic hybrid but don't know anyone that actually has one.

I get around 22/28 with the Element right now.  I do restrict my driving pretty heavily though.  I live less than a mile from work, which helps!

Then I mus assume your 22/28 isn't highway.  That's not too bad considering some companies have tried to make 22 on the highway seem like stellar performance.

That does seem pretty good. I don't drive to far from home and it is not highway so this would be something that might be good for me. Thanks

Probably the hybrid civic would be even more efective in terms of gas saving.  But how much is the price tag? That is the main proble I see so far.  The price doesn't compensate with the gas savings.

A hybrid Civic could probably get by with using more electricity in town.  It's small enough, and I assume light enough, That setting the gas engine to kick in at 30 mph would cut gas consumption to 0, in town.

What a lovely fantasy!

I would love to be able to have a vehicle that got 28 to the gallon. Although right now I am driving an old Chevy Astro that gets pretty much about 20 miles to the gallon and that is anywhere, highway or just around town. Which isn't bad for an old 1988 vehicle.

The hybrids should run on electric up to 40mph.  That way one can be sure that within the city, the gas consumption goes to a minimum.  That would be a great motivation to buy hybrids, don't you think?
