It's always a good idea to keep idling to a minimum. Apparently keeping your car idling more than 10 seconds consumes a lot of fuel than it takes to restart the engine. The best way to warm up your car is to drive rather than leaving idling.

I hadn't heard that, but it makes sense. I can't leave my car idling because my garage is directly beneath another person's apartment. It's a really stupid design, but since I don't want to risk asphyxiating anyone, I do a lot of driving in cold cars in the winter.

I always heard it was best to warm the car, not for the peole but so the fluids in the engine would do their job properly.  All those oils and other lubricants need to get moving.  Is this a myth?

I guess warming up is necessary in winter! But in the summer??? I think a warm up of a 30 second to a 1 minute period is more than enough!

I have heard that also. To be honest though I need to warm my older one up or it will just constantly stall. Needs to go into the garage.

That is odd, I have always been told that it takes more gas to keep cutting off and restarting.

It doesn't get cold here too often, but when it is, I let my car idle in order to let it warm up. I didn't know that it takes more gas to idle than to restart the engine. I always thought the opposite, though.

One of the advantages of hybrids is that their engines turn off at stop lights and then restart when you press the gas peddle.  I have no clue how this is accomplished so I consider it magic!

Well, I didn't feel that the hybrid would turn the engine off... I rode with hybrid cars twice, and I didn't feel anything like that.  I only realized it was a lot more efficient gas wise... it was like 50 miles per gallon, and that is pretty good.

Well the hybrid that I road in did restart, not with the grinding that you hear when you first start a conventional engine.  This was last summer and I can't for the life of my, remember the type of car it was.

I think that is really interesting about the hybrid cars. I would love to be able to own one.

I want a hybrid so badly that I can taste it, but I don't want a monthly car payment!

What if there was an incentive, lets say the government only would change 1% of the tax for every hybrid car you own...  or tax free!  Or free registration for the firts 2 years...  don't you think this would be a great incentive for the people to buy them, the factories to produce them and the prices to get even lower???  I think that could be something that might start helping the planet.

I remember several stories being printed in the newspaper that if you expect to idle for more than 30 seconds (like at a railroad crossing) you should shut off the engine because it will save fuel. I do think that different cars would have different results and hybrids are a whole different situation. But in general, a running engine uses fuel so shutting it off will save it.

Older cars used a lot of gas to start, but not the new, fuel injected cars.  If you get stopped by a train, you're better off shutting down.  At stop lights, unless you know you'll be there for a while, it can get dangerous trying to restart when the light turns green.  Other drivers may run into the back of you when they see green.

HHO Water Conversion Kit.

I came across this product through a clickbank site.

It seems like the physics check out... but check it out for yourself. This site is very informative.
