I'm not sure about this, but I think you'll get better gas mileage if you use synthetic motor oil. Don't be cheap! You don't have change your oil as often with Synthetic, it's not real oil (reducing demand), and your CAR WILL LAST LONGER. It seems like that's enough reason to go full synthetic at your next oil change. What does everyone else think? Do we have any experts that can speak on this topic?

I haven't looked at the properties of synthetic oils.  I don't understand how they work or what they are made from that makes them so different from regular oils.

What are the differences between synthetic and regular motor oils?

The topic regarding synthetic oil is really interesting and i was really not aware of it. Just google'd about the topic and found an article in this regard useful and interesting.

I know you can get more miles in before an oil change with synthetic oil, but I didnt know you could get better gas mileage too.  That is definitely a plus.

Many of the new cars, at least the ones I´ve seen here in Europe, use not only synthetic oil, but also they change the oil every 18000 KM... which is a around 12000 miles.... I thin that is great improvement!

My car needs its oil changed about every three thousand miles, so if I could do better than that with synthetic oil...and help the environment too...it would definitely be worth a try.

Yes, my parents have a car that you are only suppoused to use synthetic oil in. I did not know about any of this before they got this car.

Well it looks like I need to replace my usual oil with synth at my next oil change.  My list of tweaks keeps getting longer and longer!

I hear you on that list. I have almost resorted to a list to remember all of these tips and suggestions.

Ok, just wondering, how much is a quart of synthetic oil compared to a quart of regular oil?

I shopped around and read studies comparing the oil brands. Amsoil beat the others by a mile (no pun intended) so I use it in my cars. The version I use is 0W30, you change it once a year or 35K miles, whichever is first.  You end up saving money no matter what, and after 3 years my oil is still clean. I recommend it.

I have a 2004 Ford Freestar and I use synthetic oil.  It's a 5w20.  It costs $10.00 more for an oil change.  Even though you last longer I still change it every 3,000 miles.

Synthetic oil is far better because it costs a lot less.  Synthetic oil could be made as a substitute quite easily if it is studied properly and then mass reproduced.

If you really want to save... Use Ethos. It is a publically traded company, they aren't allowed to exaggerate like others do... the truth is; increase MPG 7-19% improve emmissions by 30 -100%. It reformulates your Fuel and Oil......It becomes super Synthetic!
