I don't think many people understand the powerful relation tires have to saving gas. Save money by making your tire last longer and at the same time you'll get better mileage. Make sure to check your tire pressure on a regular basis. Oil bi-products are used to make tires, so by making your tires last longer you will also help reduce demand for oil. What does everyone else think about this?

My husband is obsessed with maintaining proper tire pressure. He checks it at least every other day. He swears that it increases gas mileage.

Sure, checking of our tires on a routine basis would definitely help us to save oil a lot. Lower fuel consumption means lower Carbondioxide emissions...(Something which we should all think to protect the environment).

Besides air pressure, what about rotating the tires?  I used to rotate mine every six month, and in 7 years, I changed one tire that needed it because it got a nail into it and it was pretty bad.  I drove around 15 thousand miles a year.

Good call berlinlife06! I know that Discount Tire Co. rotates and balances tires for free. If you have one in the area it would be a worth while stop. They will also correct your tire pressure.

I get my tire pressure checked whenever I get my oil changed, about every 3000 miles. I'm not sure why having the correct tire pressure would help gas mileage, but I've heard from several different sources that it does...

I know that I didn't realize it until I saw a show on tv about it.

Well, the thing is that when the tires have lower pressure and touch more surface because they lack air, then the car needs more energy to move, therefore needs more gas.  The same happens on the bike.  If you ride with low air on the tires, it is a lot harder than if the tires are well inflated.

That's interesting.  I should be more conscious of tire pressure as the seasons change around here.

cool, all the tire say MAX air pressure on side of them. Do not go over max, tire might bust. Just for additional info.

I usually have my tire pressure checked every oil change, maybe I should start checking it myself more often.  I heard that an under inflated tire by 2PSI can increase fuel consumption by 1%.
