I'm here in Indiana. I was amazed to see that gas prices have reached $3.85 per gallon for regular unleaded. What gives? Is there any end in sight or at least a decent pause for us to catch a break? I've been working hard to improve the gas mileage in my 2005 Xterra but this is getting crazy.

I really can't afford to buy another car right now, but at the same time I can't afford to drive the one I've got much besides back and forth to work.

I've been keeping my rpm's under 2,000 at all times which has helped a lot. I just replaced my K&N air filter and cleaned my fuel injectors. I'm about ready to try those low resistance tires. I'm about out of ideas. My SUV has lost so much value that I can't even trade it in for a new base model Honda civic without paying a few thousand dollars to the dealer and the government. I'm just venting...

does it have elec fans?

Yes, the 2005+ Nissan Xterras come stock with electric fans. I think that aerodynamics and drag from the design of an Xterra cause a lot of problems for gas mileage.

u could always cut holes in the floorboards and flintstone it

i feel your pain tho, we have a ml320 and a 5.0 mustang and they are both gas hogs, only thing that got decent mpg was my lil corolla and the cv joints<i think> are out in it.

Between the gas prices and the prices of groceries people on disability and fixed income are the ones who are really - I MEAN REALLY - beginning to suffer.

If any of you live near the Mexican border, consider going across for fuel. This would save you some money and reduce demand and perhaps lower prices. Mexican diesel is currently about $2.18 per gallon while regular unleaded is around $2.88. We did it in the 80's when gas started up and I guess we'll do it again.

Well... Gas is now $4.15 per gallon here in Indiana. It just keeps getting worse with no end in site.
