I found a site that is supposed to make it simple for a buyer to compare cars that don't use gas, are flex fuel, or hybrids...at least that is what it said in the search engine.

I haven't had time to explore it yet, but take a look at it and let us know what you think!

Wow, what a great site!  I notice that there are no electric models for 2008.  I suppose right now that hybrids are king.

It will be interesting to watch.  I imagine that car makers, and oil companies, in the USA are hoping to ride the hybrid tide as long as possible.  Less effort = more profit.

I agree SageMother, car makers and oil companies alike are probably loving what is going on right now. They're not quite ready to focus on electric models.

I will have to check this site. This sounds like one that I will have to bookmark. I hope in the next couple of years to check into getting a new vehicle.

Great site to compare side by side 2 car models.  Unfortunately they still don't have the Smart car in there.  Yesterday my girlfriend told me that the Smart takes 4.2 litres for 100 KM, which would be around 45 MPG approximately.  But I'm glad that the RAV4 is pretty good compared with others.

The Smart car probably won't appear in the USA sites until the oil companies and auto makers feel they can maintain their revenue base....LOL.

Good point Sagemother... I wonder if there would be independent sites that would place the comparison with the Smart cars when they arrive in the US market by 2008...

I found this article about the Smart car and its entry into the USA.  It looks like safety issues were used to hold it out of the US market, and those have been resolved by ZAP, the company slated to sell the Smart on US soil.

Great sites. I never knew such a site existed. Thanks Sagemother you are indeed a wealth of information.

Hat's off to Zap, but I'm not impressed with the Smart, wrote an artical on them last year after talking to some of their drivers down in Death Valley. As a city commuter I think it will be great, but practical for those of us who have to drive a hundred miles to the grochery store, it is just too small to cary a reasnable amount of grocheries. Also for it's smallness I would have expected something closser to the 100 mpg of the VW Lupo, not something getting less than my old Opel GT or Austin American. But given the US's false safety standards, I can understand the complications. Still I want that 100+ mpg here in the us.

I completely agree with you NudeAutoMall.  I think you can get a Kia with better gas mileage than the smart for $9k USD.  You can also fit more groceries in a Kia.

Safety?  I've been to Germany.  We were driving 90+ mph in a tiny VW rabbit.  I felt fine.  Cars this size don't bother me, but I guess if I were in a wreck I might feel differently.  I'm so so about the safety standards for cars in the US.

So where's the nude auto mall?  I love to car shop

Had hopes of opening the NudeAutoMall near Vegas but investers are chicken. Just have to stick with the internte version for now.

Try a little Fiat 500 on for a feal of safe one time, it's more like putting a pare of pants on then climbing into a car. Add a little power and boy that's a fun car, but safe, not a chance.

When I talk about the US's false safty standards, I am talking about add a roll cage and a real safety belt and sudenly you commonly see people walking away from 200 mph accidents (any race track) but the cars the US cals safe commonly kill and maim people at only 55 mph.

One Portland Jeep dealership is offering $0.99/gallon gas for 3 years! I think Jeep was doing it for $2.99 but somehow they are taking an additional 2 dollars off to make it $0.99.

You have to check it out for yourself, http://dickhannahjeep.com/.

Is there a catch to this?

I think that is the desperation of not selling the cars that are now consuming so much gas??? Perhaps is a way of getting the people to buy thinking they'll have very cheap gas.
